Dangerous Aloe vera?
Attention: Aloe vera leaf can be dangerous for health if not used correctly!!!
NATURAL DOES NOT MEAN AUTOMATICALLY SAFE AND GOOD FOR HEALTH
Aloe Vera is a key product for home made cosmetic. Easy, efficient and natural. That is why I have started to buy fresh organic aloe vera leaves. They can be found in supermarkets and cost only 1 euro/a big leaf.
I was cutting a piece from the fresh leaf and then using for different beauty routines. However, natural does not mean safe and good for our health. One of my friend from Guadeloupe told me that his brother has lost all his hair as he was using daily fresh aloe vera while he was working on the fields. That was strange since he is the only one bold in his family no matter the age.
I have started to inform myself and discovered that there are precautions in the way we can use this marvellous plant. Indeed, the outer part of the Aloe Vera leaf eliminates a yellow-colored liquid called latex.
THERE ARE STUDIES THAT REVEAL HOW WE SHOULD USE ALOE VERA
There is a report on Aloe Vera, published in Nov 2018, by French National Agency for Sanitary Safety of Food, Environment and Work (ANSES). It makes reference to data provided by the World Health Organization and European Drug Organization. The report indicates latex as being rich in molecules that have very powerful laxative and other undesirable effects. The study reveals that those molecules are also likely to damage DNA and to be carcinogenic.
I share the link to the report:
It is interesting to read it no matter if you use aloe vera in beauty, cooking or as part of your alimentary diet. My understanding is that some companies are still selling aloe vera products made from whole aloe vera leaf.
The report indicates that we should clean very well the external green part and latex and use only the gel inside of the leaf. I looked at the label which is put on fresh aloe vera leaf by the manufacturer. And indeed, there is also written that the external part is toxic and should be cut and the rest rinsed with water.
WHICH ALOE VERA DO I USE
I tried to cut and separate the latex from the gel. I admit that it is not really obvious to identify it and then select only the healthy part of the leaf.
At the beginning I was thinking to give up to aloe Vera and not use it at all. However, there are magnificent results we can get and benefit from this nature wonder. I have started to buy ready aloe vera gel. Here again attention to list of ingredients. There are aloe vera gels on the market which claim 98% of aloe vera and in fact there are also preservatives with carcinogen potential like DMDM Hydantoin. The gel I prefer is clean and should be kept in the fridge since it contains no additives.
I hope this information is valuable to you. Once we are well informed, we can fully benefit from the healthy nature.
In harmony with ourSelves and nature.
